Dennis Warren is a teacher of traditional mindfulness, meditation and contemplative practices as well as their contemporary uses with chronic pain, anxiety, depression, burn out, professional performance and in therapy. He has over thirty (30) years of practice experience and residential retreat work in Insight (Vipassana) Meditation.

 

He has been teaching since 1998 in the form of individual and small group instruction & coaching, beginning and intermediate meditation courses, training programs, workshops, pain management trainings, and weekend and residential retreats. These efforts have and continue to serve a diverse number of groups, community organizations, government, private industry, physicians, therapists, nurses, attorneys, homeless women with children, at-risk teens, and maximum security state prison mental health staff.

 

 

 

 

 

 

As a teacher he is particularly interested making the practices and psychology underlying mindfulness, meditation and contemplative practices relevant to daily life, business & professional performance, and relationships, as well as long term spiritual development.

 

He is a graduate of the professional trainings in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (an intensive meditation-based pain management program developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (an intensive meditation-based program for depression developed at the University of Toronto's Center or Addiction.) He is certified as a Mindfulness Teacher, Professional Level (CMT-P) by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association.

For eleven (11) years from 2006 to 2017, Dennis was a Volunteer Clinical Professor in the Division of Pain Medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine and Medical Center. This work focused on the use of mindfulness-based interventions for chronic pain and related chronic mental, emotional and physical pain. During the same time he was a Visiting Instructor in the Psychiatry and Spirituality Course in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. In July of 2013 he was recognized for his "Extraordinary Service to the UC Davis Division of Pain Medicine."

 

Dennis is the Founding Teacher and principal architect of Sacramento Insight Meditation (SIM), an educational not-for-profit organization founded in 2002 which offers a wide range of meditation and contemplative practices based services to the greater Sacramento community. See SIM website at  http://sactoinsight.org/ . He is a graduate of the two and one half years long meditation leaders' training program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Wood Acre, California.

During the last ten (10) years he has annually co-taught a week long residential Mindfulness meditation retreat with Spirit Rock Meditation Retreat Center Senior Teacher Emeritus John Travis.

He has lead twenty-six (26) day Asian Pilgrimages and Moving Retreats in Thailand, India and Nepal in 2007 and 2014 which involved his teaching at eight different venues of importance in meditative history. Another is schedule for late 2021.
